Metal Works: Munich, Salvatorplatz 4
With Metal Works, The Rope | Gallery turns its focus to a material long rooted in the history of architecture, sculpture, and design – metal, a substance often associated with structural necessity, permanence, and industrial utility.
This exhibition gathers an exceptional selection of furniture and objects by international designers who have redefined the possibilities of metal: raw or refined, structural or sculptural, functional or poetic. On view are works by seminal figures such as Christophe Côme, Arno Declercq, Paul Evans, Donald Judd, Yonel Lebovici, Rick Owens, Jean Prouvé, Pierre Sabatier and Eric Schmitt – designers whose contributions shape(d) key movements from modernism to minimalism, brutalism to the avant-garde.
The show challenges viewers to reconsider metal not as a static or cold medium, but as one capable of deep emotional resonance, cultural symbolism, and timeless relevance in the language of design.
