The Rope | Gallery presents Avant-Brutalism, an exhibition featuring works by Belgian designer Arno Declercq. His designs can be understood as functional sculptures, defined by an elemental materiality and meticulous craftsmanship.

The exhibition brings together a complete expression of Arno Declercq´s universe, unfolding as a coherent environment rather than a sequence of individual pieces. Spanning both previously released works and new developments from the Fundament collection, the presentation traces the continuity of a practice grounded in structure, material, and time.

Working primarily with wood and steel, Arno Declercq develops a radical material language. Surfaces are burned, brushed, and sealed, revealing depth, grain, and the capacity to hold light and shadow. Construction remains visible and direct, with no decorative gesture – only structure, balance, and weight made legible.

Across the exhibition, earlier works and new pieces coexist as part of the same vocabulary. Rather than marking a rupture, the new developments extend and refine this language, reinforcing a vision where objects are not designed to be observed, but to be lived with – over time, through use, and within space.
