A visionary Venetian artist and designer celebrated for transforming Murano glass into innovative lighting art
Angelo Brotto (1914–2002) was a visionary Venetian artist and designer celebrated for transforming Murano glass into innovative lighting art. A graduate of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, Brotto first gained acclaim through commissioned frescoes and early works for Peggy Guggenheim’s collection. In the 1960s and ’70s, Brotto’s collaboration with the Murano glassmaker Esperia redefined glass lighting, blending playful modern forms with the traditional Murano craft. His award-winning designs, recognized across Italian art fairs and biennials, stand out for their bold creativity and for breaking conventions in glass design.
